SNRA comprises one of the largest and most magnificent National Recreation Areas in the United States. Four mountain ranges, the Sawtooth's, Boulders, White Clouds and Smokies provide scenic landscapes in every direction, with more than 50 major peaks over 10,000 feet, 300 lakes, and 250 miles of trails. There are more than 1,000 high mountain lakes here, as well as the headwaters of four of Idaho's major rivers, the Salmon, South Fork of the Payette, the Boise, and the Big Wood.
The SNRA is a vast place. It would be impossible to mention them all so we have chosen some of the areas best
This is a great taste of Idaho mountain biking. The ride starts with a short ride along hwy 75 and a good 8 mile leg- burning climb up Fisher Creek Road. Then hold on for 9.5 miles of smooth, cross-country singletrack.
How to get there:
The Williams Creek Trail head is located just north of Obsidian, Idaho on the east side of hwy 75.
Fishhook Creek is an easy hike, great for families and folks who want to experience the Sawtooth wilderness. Hikers will follow the lush Fishhook Creek through huge mountain meadows and view beautiful mountain vistas. This hike is an out/back and can be made into a 12 mile hike.
How to get there: The Fishhook Trail head is located on Redfish Lake Road, 1.7 miles west of Hwy 75.
Fly Fishing the Salmon is super-easy. The Salmon is a freestone river with gin-clear water. You will find Cutthroat and Rainbow trout throughout the Salmon River Canyon. Simply drive north of Stanley on Hwy 75 towards Challis. The road drops into the canyon and follows the river for the next 60 miles. Keep an eye on the river for deep pools and swift ripples. You will find a number of angler turnouts to explore and test your skills.
