What You Should Bring

What Sawtooth Adventure Company Provides

Sample Itinerary: Classic Stanley Rafting Trip With Lunch

Arriving at SAC Headquarters

Your Stanley rafting adventure begins at Sawtooth Adventure Company headquarters.

Plan to arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled trip time. This gives you time to meet your guide, check in, and get outfitted with any rafting gear needed for the day.

For example, if your lunch rafting trip begins at 11:00 AM, plan to arrive around 10:45 AM.

Once everyone is checked in and ready to go, we’ll load up on the bus and head downstream toward the Salmon River put-in. The shuttle ride takes about 15–20 minutes and is a great time to get excited for the adventure ahead.

Getting on the Salmon River

Once we arrive at the river, your guide will show you to your raft, help get everyone settled, and go through an important safety orientation before launching.

Then it’s officially time to start your Stanley whitewater rafting adventure!

First Rapid: Piece of Cake

Right around the corner is the first rapid of the day: Piece of Cake.

This fun and splashy rapid is the perfect way to kick off your Salmon River rafting trip near Stanley. It wakes everyone up fast and usually gets the whole boat laughing, screaming, and smiling immediately.

Make sure to smile big or strike a pose… photos are often taken here!

Scenic Floating, Wildlife & River History

After the excitement of the first rapid, the river mellows out into fun Class II whitewater and scenic floating sections.

This is where you’ll really get to soak in the beauty of the Salmon River canyon near Stanley, Idaho. Along the way, your guide may point out wildlife, share local history, tell river stories, and keep the whole group entertained.

You may even get the chance to push your guide into the river… haha, just kidding 😉

The Narrows Rapid

Before long, the water starts speeding up again and your guide will call everyone into a paddling position.

Next up is The Narrows – one of the most exciting rapids on the trip.

This splashy Class III whitewater rapid winds through a narrower canyon section and keeps the excitement going longer than most people expect. Just when you think it’s over… there’s usually another wave waiting for you.

Jump Rock

Not long after The Narrows comes one of the favorite stops of the day: Jump Rock.

Guests can climb up and jump into the cool Salmon River water below. It’s a fun break from paddling and one of the highlights of many Stanley family rafting trips.

One of our favorite traditions: if everyone in the raft jumps, the guide has to jump too.

Riverside Lunch

We’ll stop along the river for a delicious riverside meal and some time to relax. Upon arrival at our river-side lunch camp guests will have the opportunity to play river games, relax in comfortable chairs and enjoy a spectacular lunch including our famous Dutch oven cakes, salads, pasta dishes, fruit, gourmet wraps, and more. We will always accommodate any food allergies or sensitivities. Please call with any specific dietary requests.

This is the perfect chance to refuel, enjoy the scenery, and take in the full Idaho outdoor adventure experience before getting back on the water.

Returning to Headquarters

As the rafting trip comes to an end, we’ll arrive at the take-out where the bus will be waiting for us.

The shuttle back to headquarters typically takes around 30 minutes. Along the drive, guides often point out the rapids you just ran, which is always fun to see from the road after experiencing them from the river.

Back at Sawtooth Adventure Company

Once back at SAC headquarters, you can change into dry clothes in our changing rooms and check out the rafting photos from Piece of Cake on our TV screen.
